DEVELOPING SELF-REGULATED LEARNING SKILLS IN CHINESE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WHILE TEACHING ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC WRITING : ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC/SPECIFIC PURPOSES
This study focuses on developing self-regulated learning (SRL) skills among Chinese undergraduate students, particularly those majoring in Business, within the context of English for Academic Writing (EAW) instruction. SRL is essential for academic success and personal growth, especially for international students facing diverse challenges in higher education. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this research investigates the current state of SRL skills among Chinese Business Major undergraduates enrolled in EAW courses. A questionnaire is administered to assess various aspects of self-regulation, including goal setting, time management, metacognition, and resource utilization. Additionally, qualitative data is gathered through interviews to gain deeper insights into students' perceptions and experiences of SRL in the context of EAW instruction. The study then implements targeted interventions and strategies aimed at fostering SRL skills among the students. These interventions are tailored to address the specific needs and challenges identified through the assessment phase. The findings from this research offer valuable insights into enhancing SRL skills in Chinese undergraduate students studying Business, particularly within the framework of EAW instruction. This study contributes to developing effective teaching methodologies and support systems to promote SRL and facilitate academic success among international students in Business Majors.
