EXPLORING LEARNING PREFERENCES AMONG GENERATION Z AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ENGLISH SUBJECT LEARNING DESIGN : METHODOLOGIES AND TEACHING APPROACHES

Generation Z, known as Gen Z, denotes the group following Millennials and coming before Generation Alpha. This cohort is often identified by their adeptness with technology, having been raised in an era dominated by smartphones, social media, and uninterrupted digital connectivity. There is a growing recognition of the importance of considering young learners' language use and preferences to inform teaching practices. Additionally, the incorporation of technology, such as information and communication technology (ICT), can augment the learning experience for young learners. This study aims at exploring the English language learning preferences among the Polytechnic of Public Administration, LAN students to identify the learning pattern which then can be used in developing effective language learning methods. This study adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews with 30 students to explore their preferences in learning English. Variations in preferences are observed based on factors such as learning context, individual interests, and prior experiences. The result indicates a preference among Generation Z for interactive and technology-integrated learning experiences that offer flexibility, personalization, and real-world applicability. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the evolving needs and preferences of Generation Z learners and offer insights that can inform learning approaches and curriculum design to meet diverse learning styles and expectations of this cohort. In conclusion, this study benefits the English lecturer or educators in designing an effective English language learning methods.
