AN ECOLOGICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF CHINESE ICE AND SNOW NEWS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SYSTEMIC FUNCTIONAL LINGUISTICS : LINGUISTICS, DISCOURSE ANALYSIS, AND RELATED AREAS
Since the 2022 Winter Olympics, ice and snow economy in China is booming, which cannot be separated from the foundation of a good ecological environment, and localities are making good use of ice and snow cold resources. They unswervingly take the road of green ecological development, and comprehensively improve the level of ecological civilization construction. Since the end of 2023, there have been many news reports on the ice and snow economy mostly involving relevant ecological ideas. Therefore, this paper takes Systemic Functional Linguistics as the theoretical framework and adopts the method of ecological discourse analysis to categorize, statistically count, analyze and interpret the linguistic features of 10 news reports about ice and snow economy in China Daily in terms of transitivity and attitudinal resources, aiming to explore the ecological ideas in the news about ice and snow economy. It is found that the ice and snow economy news reports in China Daily are generally ecologically beneficial discourses in terms of transitivity and attitudinal resources, conveying the ecological civilization concept of respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature.
