THE METHODS OF DEVELOPING INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION AND GLOBAL COMPETENCIES IN ENGLISH CLASSES. : INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION AND GLOBAL COMPETENCIES

The significance of global competencies and effective intercultural communication in comprehending the world's cultural variety has led to its prioritization today. Byram (2009) created his interculturality model in order to solve the communicative competence theory problem. However, he failed to provide precise, workable ideas that could be used in English instruction classrooms. In her study, the presenter monitored forty foreign exchange students for eight weeks in small groups to assess their competitive and communication abilities which led to 70% of them experiencing issues including culture shock and language barrier. In this workshop, the presenter offers solutions to solve some of the language and cultural problems faced by students and teachers in intercultural communication. Additionally, she provides strategies in her talk to encourage learners to learn about the world, examine various viewpoints, share ideas, and engage in meaningful action in the area of global competency. After that, the presenter will facilitate a group discussion among the attendees by using a video clip, handouts, and rubrics. The pedagogical implications of this study suggest that English language instructors might use activities like awareness-raising, skill-getting and skill-using to engage and motivate exchange students in their classes and help them gain global skills. In the current climate of trends these findings are particularly significant in English language learners' development of global competencies and intercultural communication. All in all, participants will leave this event with the skills necessary to inspire themselves and their learning teams to create successful and efficient intercultural learning initiatives.
