EFFECTIVE WAYS OF ASSESSING STUDENTS’ INDEPENDENT WORK IN HIGH EDUCATION SYSTEM. : LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

Assessing, evaluating and grading are important instructional process in teaching and it can be affected not only by teachers or students, but parents and education system as well. Using questionnaires in diagnosis assessment gives a chance gathering meaningful date about students’ learning styles, strategies and making instructional decisions about planning lesson and motivating students. There are many handouts, handbooks and publication on assessment in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Assessment, in the words of Swaffield (2009), should foster greater student autonomy and agency in addition to enhancing learning. This promises a revolution in classroom culture where ownership and control of learning passes from teachers to students, rather than just raising test scores. However, the role of questionnaires in diagnosis assessment on students’ independent work has not much discussed in credit module system in High education. In order to develop assessing students’ autonomous skills firstly, presenter gives brief information about the characteristics of questionnaires in successful diagnosis assessment and it’s useful methods, techniques, tools and strategies. It is because teachers should monitor students’ progress, give feedback and at the end of the course they should measure students’ achievements and determine grades. In addition, using some sample of questionnaires will be compared and presenter will outline some challenges of making questionnaires in different purposes with offering solutions based on making a lesson plan and evaluating the effectiveness of teacher’s instruction. Besides, at the end of the workshop the participants will work in small groups and discuss the given methods on the cards.
