RESEARCH ON BULLET COMMENTS TEXTS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS : LINGUISTICS, DISCOURSE ANALYSIS, AND RELATED AREAS

With the rapid advancement of digital technology, bullet comments have gradually emerged as a novel form of online interaction. Utilizing online videos as a medium, bullet comments represent an innovative transformation of the traditional video commentary function, which not only facilitates a more direct communication among viewers but also provide a virtual space for interaction between the audience and content creators. In recent years, bullet comments have increasingly entered the field of academic research, with most findings concentrated in the realms of mass media. However, the discourse characteristics of bullet comments as text itself remain largely unexplored. Thus, employing Fairclough's three-dimensional discourse analysis model as the analytical framework, the research selects the bullet comments from the first episode of the documentary “Masters in Forbidden City” on Bilibili.com as the research data and conducts a comprehensive analysis across three dimensions, including the text itself, discursive practices, and sociocultural practices. The objective is to investigate how, as a form of discursive practice, bullet comments are utilized by young viewers to construct their self-identity and cultural identification, and to delve into the power dynamics embedded within this form of discourse. By applying a corpus-driven method, the research not only transcends the traditional paradigm of critical discourse analysis, which focuses on complete texts, but also expands the types of corpora used in discourse analysis, presenting new perspectives for the study of identity construction and cultural identification.
