EXPLORING EDUCATIONAL EQUITY IN THE TRANSITION TO ONLINE LEARNING: A CASE STUDY IN THAILAND : EQUITY AND LEARNER DIVERSITY

This research explores the consequences of the shift from traditional classroom instruction to online learning, particularly emphasizing educational fairness in Thailand. Utilizing the Microsoft Teams platform for online learning, the study examines the importance of video clips, widely used in online education, and the development of customized clips to meet students' learning needs and interests, thereby providing personalized learning experiences. A group of 614 undergraduate students enrolled in the English for Teaching course at the Faculty of Education participated in the research. Engagement levels were evaluated by analyzing students' viewing behaviors and their completion rates of assignments after watching videos. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study aims to explore how students utilize online technology resources to improve their speaking abilities for teaching purposes, thereby demonstrating their comprehension and skills, while also accommodating various learning preferences and abilities. Quantitative data were collected through surveys, supplemented by a thorough analysis of students' performance data. Surveys and interviews with students further enhanced the quantitative results. The main findings highlight that although online learning has widened educational access, challenges persist in ensuring educational fairness. Additionally, the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students in online settings require customized approaches to promote inclusivity. Students are provided with an opportunity to showcase their creativity when creating teaching plan clips, utilizing diverse multimedia elements to deliver engaging and informative presentations. Nevertheless, students express optimism about online education's potential to provide equal access to high-quality education.
