NEW PERSPECTIVE: TRILINGUAL STUDENTS AND THE UTILIZATION OF THE GENERATIVE AI ON FINAL PROJECT PRESENTATION : DIGITAL LITERACIES/LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY

This study sets out to achieve two main objectives: (1) identifying the generative AI platforms employed by trilingual students in their preparation of their final project presentation in academic presentation course; (2) exploring the perception regarding their usefulness and convenience of using such platforms for preparing their final project presentation in the aforementioned course. This qualitative research explored the perspectives of twenty five second-year undergraduate students majoring in Business Chinese at a public university in Thailand. Participants responded to a questionnaire consisting of seventeen questions, include both open-ended inquiries and 5-point Likert scale items. The results were analyzed based on a theory developed by Davis (1989) known as Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) consisting of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. This study findings confirm the most utilized generative AI platform to prepare for final project presentations is Google Translate, followed by Canva, and Grammarly. Trilingual students positively perceive the usefulness of implementing generative AI platforms in working on the final project presentation as they found it convenient to provide better understanding on the results and discussions section of their final project as it is affirmed by 84% of the participants. Moreover, the perception of convenience or ease of use of generative AI platforms is affirmed by 72% of the participants as they feel positive in becoming skillful at using generative AI platforms. The use of generative AI platforms offers both benefits and challenges, though the latter do not outweigh various advantages gained by students.
