UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS OF AUTONOMOUS LANGUAGE LEARNING WITH TECHNOLOGY OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM : DIGITAL LITERACIES/LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY
Out-of-class exposure to and use of the target language, facilitated by technological resources, are essential for language learning, as foreign language learners often encounter difficulty accessing and processing the target language in their immediate physical environments. To realize and maximize these potentials, engaging students in self-initiated use of technology for language learning is imperative. This quantitative study investigated Vietnamese university students' utilization of technology outside the classroom to self-regulate their language learning. The results from the questionnaire with 254 students demonstrated students’ easy access to digital technologies and the variety of locations where they use technology. In addition, the factor analysis revealed different components of technology use for language learning beyond the classroom. Drawing on the results obtained, several suggestions are provided for future research directions in the field.
