INCREASEING CADETS’ MOTIVATION IN LEARNING MARITIME ENGLISH THROUGH THE USE OF WORDWALL PLATFORM. : DIGITAL LITERACIES/LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY
This research was an attempt to know how the implementation of the Wordwall platform increases cadets’ motivation in learning maritime English and to find out the cadets’ perception through the use of the Wordwall platform in learning maritime English. The research design of this paper was using descriptive qualitative which investigated cadets’ motivation through the implementation of Wordwall Platform in teaching maritime English at PIP Makassar and investigated cadets’ perception to the implementation of wordwall platform. There were two data resources. The primary resource was 4th-semester cadets of PIP Makassar. The secondary resource was some works of literature that related to motivation. The writers worked with the instrument namely: observation (field notes), interview, and questionnaire. The procedure of collecting and analyzing the data was the observation and taking some field notes, interviews had been done with the cadets and questionnaires had been distributed to the cadets. The technique of data analysis was data collection of recording by using Miles and Hubberman’s. The results of this study showed that the implementation of the Wordwall platform has demonstrated a significant positive impact on cadets' motivation to learn maritime English. It could be seen from cadets’ competence and performance, autonomy and control, interest and value, relatedness and classroom engagement. Furthermore, cadets' perception to the Wordwall platform indicate a unanimous consensus on its value, positivity, participation, and evaluation. This further affirms the positive impact of the platform on their learning experience.

Ade Chandra is a master degree from in Indonesian Language Education from the State University Makassar, Indonesia. He has over 14 years of experience as an Academician with the Universitas Muhammadiyah Barru, where he is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education and Literature. His current research interest includes students’ learning and development at various levels and areas of education. Novianty Palayukan is an English Lecturer and currently as Associate Professor and the Head of Business Development Division at Polytechnic of Makassar Merchant Marine. She took Magister of English Language Studies in University of Hasanuddin, Makasar, Indonesia. She has been teaching over 15 years of experience as an Academician.
