USING COGNITO FORM TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF FEEDBACK FOR STUDENTS’ IELTS SPEAKING : DIGITAL LITERACIES/LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY

Given the remarkable advancements in technology, many technological applications have been used successfully in language teaching in general and giving feedback to students in particular. Among these tools, Cognito form is a powerful tool and has been applied successfully in many educational contexts, yet little research about using Cognito form to boost the quality of feedback for students’ IELTS speaking. To enhance feedback quality and alleviate workload for teachers, I conducted this action research, aiming at shedding light on two primary questions regarding 1/ the students’ opinions about the use of Cognito form for teachers’ feedback for their IELTS Speaking, and 2/ the teacher's reflection in the process of using Cognito form for teacher’s feedback for their IELTS Speaking. Three data collection instruments namely questionnaire, interview, and teaching journal were used. The results revealed the students’ relatively positive responses to Cognito form application since it could offer various merits for both learners and teachers. For students, Cognito form enabled students to get more detailed and systematic feedback reports produced based on a clear template from the teacher, thus fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter content. For teachers, it is more time-efficient, cost-effective, and enables lecturers to give more organized feedback. Nonetheless, some difficulties in the application process and suggestions for improvements were also proposed to enhance the efficiency of using Cognito form in giving feedback for students’ IELTS speaking.
