EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION AND GLOBAL COMPETENCE ON ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT AND CULTURAL ADAPTATION: A STUDY OF MULTINATIONAL CABIN CREW IN KOREA. : INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION AND GLOBAL COMPETENCIES

This study aims to explore the influence of cultural backgrounds, global competencies, and intercultural communication proficiency, specifically in Korean and English, on the organizational commitment and cultural adaptation of Multinational Cabin Crew members working in Korea. Data were gathered using a combined methodology of surveys and case studies for Multinational Cabin Crew. Along with analyzing flight evaluation scores and comments received after each flight, individual interviews with team leaders, Korean colleagues, and Multinational cabin crew members were conducted to uncover perceptions of Multinational cabin crew members in relation to their language abilities and overall global competence. Additionally, surveys were utilized to analyze Multinational cabin crew members' perceptions of Korean culture and their organizational adaptation according to their proficiency in Korean and English. The integration of individual interviews allowed for deeper discussions on nuanced thoughts and experiences. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the intricate dynamics between cultural backgrounds, language proficiency, global competence, organizational commitment, and cultural adaptation among Multinational Cabin Crew members in Korea. Through a comprehensive approach combining surveys, case studies, and individual interviews, valuable insights have been gained into the perceptions and experiences of Multinational cabin crew members in relation to their language abilities, global competence, and cultural adaptation. The findings underscore the importance of considering linguistic and cultural factors, particularly global competence, in fostering organizational cohesion and individual professional development. Moreover, the study advocates for recognizing and addressing multicultural workplaces' diverse needs and challenges.

Joo Hyun Lee is currently in charge of planning, personnel, management, and cultural event programs at the airline company's Multinational Cabin Crew Operations Team. She received her Master's degree in TESOL from Ewha Womans University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in HRD and Adult Continuing Education at Korea University.
