TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS' PERSPECTIVES ON TEACHING ENGLISH : TEACHER EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This study explores elementary school teachers' professional development experiences in teaching English, focusing on formal and non-formal professional learning. The research aims to understand how these experiences influence classroom practice. Using qualitative research, data were gathered through questionnaires and interviews from 23 elementary school teachers. The findings reveal that while the participants have engaged in various forms of formal and non-formal professional learning, these experiences are not fully implemented in their classrooms. The study highlights several barriers to implementation, such as lack of resources, support, and time. This suggests a gap between professional development and practical application, pointing to the need for more effective integration of teacher training into classroom practices. Recommendations include enhancing support systems and providing more practical, hands-on training to ensure that professional learning experiences can be fully utilized in teaching English in elementary schools.
