EXPANDING THE USE OF PECHA KUCHA POWER POINT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS : DIGITAL LITERACIES/LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY
To answer the demand of integrating Technology Pedagogy and Content Knowledge in teaching English, an English teacher can explore the features provided by Microsoft program brought by a laptop or computer. Almost all teachers are now using power point in their classroom, but not many teachers know how to explore and expand the use of power point. Pecha Kucha is one of the ways in expanding the use of power point. It can be used to teach speaking, reading and writing. Originally, Pecha Kucha power points consists of 20 slides, and each slide lasts in 20 seconds. Each slide contains picture or photograph. However, the teacher can modify the content of the slide and the time for each slide depending on the teaching purposes. In speaking lesson, the students create Pecha Kucha power point and present it in a punctual time. In reading lesson, the teacher creates Pecha Kucha power point, and the students learn to do speed reading. In writing lesson, the teacher creates Pecha Kucha power point, and the students learn to do note taking. Hence, Pecha Kucha is a powerful tool for the teacher to teach English and for students to learn and practice their English skills.
